Metricooler, social media works a little like a Marvel movie: leaving as soon as the credits start rolling means you might miss something important. In fact, there’s almost as much work to do after posting as there is before.

That first hour after your post goes live matters more than you might realize.

It gives you a chance to help your content reach more people, encourage those first interactions, and start real conversations with your community.

So, in this newsletter, I’m walking you through five things you can do right after publishing a post.

#1 Join the conversation

Whenever someone takes the time to comment on your latest post (or any of them), reply to them. Every time. Yes, it’s the polite thing to do, but it also sends an important signal to the algorithm. It shows that your content is capturing people’s attention and sparking interest. When the algorithm notices that activity, it may give your post more visibility and put it in front of a broader audience.

Posts that ask a question receive almost 37% more comments than posts that don’t.

And think about it from the user’s perspective. When people see a brand actively participating in the conversation, they’re much more likely to join in. That’s what building a community is all about.

Put this into practice today: Keep the first 30–60 minutes after publishing free so you can monitor the comments as they come in, and respond to all of them.

Brands doing this really well: Beauty blender, sharing the love with its followers; Lego, always finding the right thing to say; or Metricool, staying on top of the comments and keeping the conversation alive.

#2 Show up where your audience hangs out

Spend time engaging with posts from accounts that have an audience similar to yours. That activity gives the algorithm more context about your niche and the people who may be interested in your content. A like or a comment may have a bigger impact than you think.

Put this into practice today: While you wait for the first comments to roll in on your new post, spend a few minutes scrolling through your feed. Like relevant posts and leave supportive comments so people in your niche start recognizing your name.

Accounts doing this really well: Beauty creators such as Cheyy Danielle, Shanaya or Lourdes García joining the conversation under Rare Beauty posts; or the ‘HGH Women' s Hiking Community’ showing up in the comments on Salomon’s content.

#3 Stories give your post another shot

Instagram gives you more than one place to publish content, so why not use both? Sharing your latest feed post to Stories is a simple way to give it another boost. It can help you:

  • Drive more clicks to the post and increase its reach

  • Reach users who mainly consume Stories (and yes, there are some of them)

Still, simply resharing your post and moving on isn’t enough. To make it work, add something visual or interactive, such as a poll, question, emoji, or sticker. Give people a reason to stop, pay attention, and tap through.

Put this into practice today: Start with a Story that introduces the post’s topic through a poll or question. Then share the feed post in the following Story and add some text, emojis, or context to spark curiosity.

Adding a sticker to your latest post doesn’t automatically make it a strategy.

#4 Share it with a few trusted friends

This tip is particularly helpful for newer or smaller accounts. When someone shares your post, the algorithm sees it as a sign that the content is useful, interesting, or worth passing along. To help generate that initial activity, you can send your post to a few trusted contacts right after it goes live.

Just don’t over do this. Stick to three to five people who are genuinely interested in your content and likely to engage naturally. Avoid sending it to a huge list of people, and don’t use this tip on every single post. Too much repetitive activity can look spammy to Instagram, which may end up affecting your performance rather than improving it.

Put this into practice today: Create a trusted circle of up to five people who are happy to support your content when it’s genuinely relevant to them.

#5 Pay attention to your numbers

If you’re not measuring your social media performance, you’re basically guessing. You can spend hours brainstorming content, jumping on trends, and editing every post until it looks perfect. None of that gives you a clear direction unless you know what’s actually getting results.

Use Metricool Analytics to monitor how your posts perform. Pay particular attention to reach, views, shares, and saves. These metrics will help you identify which ideas are worth repeating and which ones you can leave behind.

Put this into practice today: Open Metricool Studio and ask it to show you your top-performing posts from the last few days, the metrics where each post stands out, and what may have driven its success. Then take what you’ve learned and apply it to future content.

Our L-AI-test Project 💛

We're working on a report built on real stories from content pros, and we'd love yours to be one of them. How you use AI, the habits you've built, the results you're getting, what works and what doesn't. And if you don't use AI, your point of view is part of the real story too.

It takes a couple of minutes, and if you share your experience, you could show up in the study and on our social channels.

PD

The ultimate epic hit theaters this week: The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring a cast that’s hard to beat: Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Tom Holland.

I’m a big fan of epic stories on the big screen, and if Nolan is behind the camera, I’m already in.

What’s your favorite everyday epic? Mine is trying to predict Mosseri’s next move on Instagram. Will it be another algorithm update? A feature we’ve already seen on another platform? Nolan may not be directing that movie, but following the plot is certainly an adventure.
